Austin – Texas Lt. Colonel Dan Patrick says the bill criminalizing AI-generated child pornography is an important step to keeping up with advances in technology and eliminating loopholes in the law.
Patrick released a statement following the unanimous passage of Senate Bill 20.
Senate Bill 20 commits a new state felony guilty for possession or promotion of indecent visual material that appears to portray a child under the age of 18, whether the depiction is an actual child, cartoon, animation, or an image created using AI or other computer software.
“As Texas enters the digital age, our state must be very careful about its approach to artificial intelligence,” says Lt. Col. Patrick. Texas law has named SB 20 a priority because it must eliminate all kinds of child pornography and then do more to stop the resulting crime. The SB 20 keeps Texas up to date with advances in technology and blocks out loopholes in the law to protect children. I would like to thank Senator Flores for his hard work in addressing this important issue. ”
