WASHINGTON—January 13, 2025—The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) today announced that the SIA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer CEO John Neufer released the following statement: This regulatory action imposes global restrictions and onerous licensing requirements on U.S. exports of advanced integrated circuits. Several regulations have already been introduced in recent years to control and restrict access to advanced semiconductors.
“We are extremely disappointed that a policy change of this scale and impact was announced so quickly, days before the presidential transition, and without meaningful input from industry. The new rules By ceding strategic markets to competitors, the U.S. economy and the global competitiveness of semiconductors and AI will suffer unintended permanent consequences. The stakes are high and the timing is difficult. We will continue to work with leaders in Washington to do what America does best: protect our national security. We are ready to chart a path forward that will allow us to compete and win.”
