Samsung is introducing a grocery shopping function to its refrigerators powered by artificial intelligence.
U.S. customers will be able to refill their Samsung bespoke refrigerators with groceries “directly from the screen” thanks to an upcoming feature that combines Samsung’s “proprietary food recognition technology” with Instacart’s product matching application programming interface (API). The company announced Thursday. .
The feature comes from Samsung’s newly announced “multi-year” partnership with the online grocery service, which will feature Samsung’s 2025 Bespoke Refrigerator with “different types of screens” and the company’s “AI Vision Inside” technology. It is scheduled to be introduced in
Samsung says it will also be available this year on Samsung’s older AI Family Hub+ refrigerators as long as they are equipped with food recognition technology.

According to the company, eligible existing models will be able to take advantage of this feature through a network update. The schedule for that is still being worked out.
“The combination of Samsung’s leading technologies and Instacart’s superior online grocery shopping platform demonstrates how the partnership can create new levels of convenience,” Samsung Electronics chief Jeong Seung-moon said in a statement. It will be a good example.”
Samsung also described the partnership with Instacart as the company’s “latest step in Samsung’s commitment to collaborating with other forward-thinking technology leaders to add value to the user experience.”
Its “AI Vision Inside” is already helping owners keep track of food in their refrigerators. The company says it uses cameras and deep learning models to accomplish this.

The technology can identify up to three dozen or more foods, but Samsung says that “the names and expiration dates of unrecognized foods must be manually set.”
Future features will expand on AI Vision Inside by “enabling refills via Instacart directly from the refrigerator.”
Once the feature launches, owners of Samsung Bespoke refrigerators in the U.S. will need Wi-Fi in addition to a Samsung and Instacart account to take advantage of the feature, according to a company press release. You must also live in an area where Instacart operates.
The company says the 32-inch AI Family Hub+ and soon-to-be-announced 9-inch AI Home will be included in bespoke models in 2025, when the feature first appears.

The bespoke refrigerator with a 9-inch AI home screen will be highlighted at CES 2025 along with a number of other Samsung high-tech appliances. Samsung previously described the 9-inch AI Home Bespoke Refrigerator as a home appliance that “meets consumers who want the advanced features of a family hub in a more compact size.”
CES 2025 will be held from January 7th to January 10th.
