AI-generated profiles and users could soon flood Facebook, according to new comments from a Meta AI executive.
Over the past year, the social media platform company has been perfecting and promoting new artificial intelligence programs and technologies across its sites, including Facebook. In July, Meta launched a new trial AI character creation tool with hundreds of thousands of characters already created.
Most of these characters are private for now, but Mehta expects them to become a regular part of the platform within the next few years.
Connor Hayes, vice president of generative AI products at Meta, told the Financial Times on Thursday: “We expect these AIs to actually live on our platform over time, just like accounts. “There is,” he said.

“They’ll have a bio and a profile picture, and they’ll be able to generate and share AI-powered content on the platform…I think that’s where we’re going to take everything forward,” he said. added.
Hayes said investing in AI will be a “priority” over the next two years to make Meta’s platform “more interesting and engaging” for users. Currently, users can access Meta AI to edit photos and create AI assistants.
The Financial Times also reported that Meta is also planning to roll out new text-to-video generation software for content creators to insert themselves into AI-generated videos.
Ahead of these deployments, some experts warned that extensive guardrails would need to be put in place to prevent the “weaponization” of this technology.
Becky Owen, chief marketing officer at talent agency Billion Dollar Boy and former head of Meta’s creator innovation team, told the Financial Times: “Without strong safeguards, platforms will “There is a risk of amplifying false narratives through the accounts they lead.”
She also warned that the influx of AI users could fill platforms with relatively low-quality content, which could actually dilute brands.
She further added, “Unlike their human creators, these AI personas do not have lived experience, emotions, or similar empathic abilities.”
AI-generated content currently must include an “AI Info” label on Facebook.
A Meta spokesperson touted the AI tool’s capabilities in comments to Fox Business.
“AI Studio allows you to create and chat with AI characters, which are interest-based AIs. These can be created by anyone and used for utility, fun, and support. Create an AI Find out how to cook, get quick advice, generate captions, share fashion advice, give daily affirmations, and more. “You can,” the spokesperson said.

Meta is investing heavily in AI, but CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in April that it may take years to see results from the company’s AI technology.
“Historically, investing in building these new scaled experiences in our apps has been a very good long-term investment for us and for the investors who stick with us, and here we are. But the initial signs are very positive. But building cutting-edge AI is also a larger undertaking than any other experience we’ve added to the app, and will likely take several years. ” Zuckerberg said.
