SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas at San Antonio announced it will establish a new college next year.
The Department of AI, Cyber, and Computing will begin classes in fall 2025, with an estimated enrollment of more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
The university will have four specialized departments: computer engineering and artificial intelligence, computer science, information systems and cybersecurity, and statistics and data science, according to a news release.
It will help prepare students for in-demand careers and solidify the university’s reputation for research, the release said.
“Our newest university is at the epicenter of the digital convergence that will shape the future, with a focus on thought leadership, new innovation, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and future applications of AI, computing, and data science. Yes,” UTSA Chancellor Taylor Amy said in a release. . “Furthermore, the first-of-its-kind university will strengthen our position as a leader across sectors and drive the workforce and economic development that our city, state and nation need.”

The new university will also utilize research centers to support students. The UTSA AI Consortium for Human Well-Being and the Open Cloud Institute will contribute to expanding interdisciplinary research, the university said.
The program also aims to unite the three research centers under one location to address the challenges of American society and advance technological achievements.
