The Ministry of Education will encourage schools to improve AI education to “meet China’s future demand for innovative talent” and improve students’ digital skills and problem-solving abilities, according to a ministry circular released last week. He reportedly requested that.
More than 500 universities in China have offered AI majors since 2018, a year after the Chinese government announced plans to become a world leader in artificial intelligence.
The Ministry of Education said AI courses should be launched “systematically” and included as a factor when evaluating schools.
Early elementary students need to gain experience and develop basic ideas about AI, while older students need to understand and learn how to apply the technology. High schools should focus on “innovative projects that apply AI,” the circular says.
