“Wicked” star Ariana Grande isn’t sure about artificial intelligence after co-star Cynthia Erivo felt insulted by a fan’s edit of the poster for her upcoming musical.
“I think AI is very complex because I think it’s very inconsistent and messy at times. But I think this is like a very large adjustment period,” Grande said last Saturday. He spoke to Variety at the Academy Museum Gala.
She continued, “This is much bigger than us, and our fans will enjoy editing it.”
“And I respect and love my sister Cynthia so much. It’s just a big adjustment period right now. I’m so inspired by something so much bigger than us.”

Several posters have been released for the film, and one of the latest, reminiscent of the original Broadway poster, features Grande’s Glinda whispering into the ear of Erivo’s Elphaba. The main difference in the movie poster is that Erivo’s eyes are clearly visible under Elphaba’s hat, unlike the Broadway version.
Some fans made changes to the film version to bring it closer to the Broadway version, such as lowering Erivo’s hat to cover his eyes.
Erivo took to social media last Wednesday to object to a fan’s edit of the “Wicked” poster.
“This is the wildest, most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen, as much as the awful AI we’re fighting, and as much as people asking the question, ‘Is your P green?’ ” she wrote in an expired Instagram story.

“AI of us Fighting,” an AI-generated animation that transformed a static poster into a cartoon-like fight between two women, created a bit of a buzz.
“None of this is funny. None of it is cute. It degrades me. It degrades us,” Erivo wrote.
“I think AI is very complex because I think it’s very inconsistent and messy at times, but I think it’s like a very large adjustment period.”
Regarding the fan-edited poster, Erivo took particular issue with the fact that the eyes were covered.
“The original poster is an illustration,” she wrote. “I am a real person and I choose to look directly under the barrel of my camera at you, the viewer…because we communicate without words, with our eyes. The poster is an homage, not an imitation, and is meant to edit my face.” To hide my eyes is to erase me, and it hurts so much. ”
What is artificial intelligence (AI)?
Representatives for Grande and Erivo did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
According to Forbes, “Wicked” director Jon M. Chu showed support for Erivo’s remarks on his Instagram Story, sharing a screenshot of her remarks and calling her a “superhero.” .
Online, fans generally felt that Erivo’s reaction was too intense for a fan-edited poster.
“I know it sounds mean, but Cynthia needs to calm down. It’s not that serious. The meme has always been there,” one person wrote.

“Since she was cast, she has been subjected to an endless barrage of criticism, from not being ‘right’ for the role because she is not white, to not being ‘pretty enough,'” one person wrote. wrote, adding, “Cynthia wants people to see her as: With this post, she’s simply asking for respect not only for herself, but also for Ariana, who has been held back unnecessarily to portray this role as herself. It eloquently illustrates the pressures on women in particular. This is what women of color face when they dare to be in spaces where they are not always welcomed. ”
Still others supported Erivo’s disapproval of AI, writing, “I support Cynthia Erivo 100% for her hatred of AI.”
