As Kopite7kimi suggested in response to recent rumors, NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 GPU won’t be significantly more expensive than the RTX 4090.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 GPU is expensive, but recent price rumors are a bit overstated
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 will be part of the launch lineup of next-generation RTX 50 “Blackwell” GPUs that will officially debut at CES 2025. So far, the configuration and high-level specifications have been revealed. The RTX 5090 in particular looks very attractive compared to the RTX 4090 with 32 GB of VRAM and over 21,000 cores, but these specs have led to speculation about a possible price increase and some exaggerated claims. There are also rumors.
Rumors earlier this week claimed that NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 would cost up to $2,500, while the RTX 5080 would cost over $1,000. These are all guesses, and wrong guesses with good reason. What I can say is that neither AIB nor any of its partners have been briefed on the “official” or expected pricing for the next generation lineup.
NVIDIA is in the process of explaining SKUs, configurations, and specs to partners, but nothing else. Within the current period, AIB and its partners will look at the blueprint provided by NVIDIA and devise their own PCB and cooling solutions. Pricing is then finalized, typically after NVIDIA provides the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, closer to release. Why is MSRP important? NVIDIA typically focuses on MSRP models because Founders Edition designs are priced on MSRP models and initial reviews should be based on MSRP models. I am. Non-MSRP models are designed to allow AIB and partners to take full advantage of custom PCBs and innovative GPU cooling solutions.

I’ve heard from one of our sources deep within the Taiwanese factory that makes cooling equipment for NVIDIA that the Green Team has at least eight different coolers designed for the reference “FE” model. Although we cannot say for sure whether these are final models or prototypes, we can tell when the final BOM will be created.
I don’t think there will be a significant price increase for the RTX 5090.

Now, coming back to pricing, even Kopite7kimi, one of the most respected rakes in the tech scene, suggests that prices are pretty “fake” these days. He said he doesn’t expect the RTX 5090’s price to increase significantly compared to the RTX 4090, which currently retails for about $1,800 or more, but has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $1,599. It will be discontinued soon to make room for the model.
RTX 50 GPU pricing is not shared with any partners.

We also confirmed that most AIBs are currently trying to increase their RTX 40 inventory as much as possible. So, you can expect big discounts in the upcoming holiday season, especially on the RTX 4080 SUPER and RTX 4070 SUPER cards.
I won’t divulge any pricing rumors, but the last significant price increase for ultra-enthusiast cards like the “90” series was the RTX 3090 priced at $1500, with the subsequent “Ti” version priced at $1999. It was. us. The RTX 4090 ended up being 60-80% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti, but it still cost $100 more than the previous 90-class GPU. We might see similar price increases, or you might be able to get the RTX 5090 for the same US price of $1599. No one knows that. However, rest assured that gamers and those looking forward to the RTX 5090 graphics card are advised not to give too much credence to the current price rumors and wait for official confirmation.
