NVIDIA and Foxconn are building Taiwan’s largest supercomputer, marking a milestone in Taiwan’s AI advancement.
The project, Hon Hai Kaohsiung Super Computing Center, announced at Tuesday’s Hon Hai Tech Day, is built around NVIDIA’s breakthrough Blackwell architecture and includes a total of 64 racks and 4,608 GB200 NVL72 platform GPUs. It is planned to be equipped with
Expected to deliver over 90 exaflops of AI performance, this machine is believed to be the fastest in Taiwan.
Once operational, Foxconn plans to accelerate breakthrough advances in cancer research, large-scale language model development, and smart city innovation, positioning Taiwan as a global leader in AI-driven industries.
Foxconn’s “three platform strategy” focuses on smart manufacturing, smart cities, and electric vehicles. The new supercomputer will play a pivotal role in supporting Foxconn’s continued efforts in digital twins, robotic automation, and smart urban infrastructure, bringing AI-assisted services to urban areas like Kaohsiung.
Construction has begun on a new supercomputer in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The first phase is expected to be operational by mid-2025. Full deployment is targeted for 2026.
The project will integrate with NVIDIA technologies such as NVIDIA Omniverse and Isaac Robotics Platform for AI and digital twin technology to help transform manufacturing processes.
“Foxconn’s new AI supercomputer, powered by NVIDIA’s Blackwell platform, is one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers and represents a significant leap forward in AI computing and efficiency,” said James Wu, Foxconn vice president and spokesperson. “It represents significant progress.”
The GB200 NVL72 is a cutting-edge data center platform optimized for AI and accelerated computing.
Each rack includes 36 NVIDIA Grace CPUs and 72 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs connected via NVIDIA’s NVLink technology, delivering 130TB/s of bandwidth.
The NVIDIA NVLink switch allows a 72 GPU system to function as a single integrated GPU. This makes it ideal for training large-scale AI models and performing complex inference tasks on trillions of parameter models in real time.
Taiwan-based Foxconn (officially known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co.) is the world’s largest electronics manufacturer, known for producing a wide range of products for the world’s top technology brands, from smartphones to servers. known.
With a vast workforce and manufacturing facilities around the world, Foxconn plays a critical role in supplying the world’s technology infrastructure. The company is a leader in smart manufacturing, digitizing its factories with NVIDIA Omniverse and being one of the pioneers of industrial AI.
Foxconn is the first to use NVIDIA NIM microservices to develop domain-specific large-scale language models (LLMs) embedded in various internal systems and processes in AI factories for smart manufacturing, smart electric vehicles, and smart cities. It’s also one of the companies. .
The Hon Hai Kaohsiung Supercomputing Center is part of a growing global network of advanced supercomputing facilities powered by NVIDIA. This network includes several notable facilities across Europe and Asia.
These supercomputers represent a significant advance in computing power and leverage NVIDIA’s cutting-edge technology to advance research and innovation across a variety of scientific disciplines.
