Federal health officials, who are grappling with when and how to use artificial intelligence, are planning to host an invitation-only conference Wednesday bringing together AI leaders from industry, academia and government.
The three-hour event, titled “AI in Action: Transforming Health and Human Services,” is being hosted by the federal Department of Health. The agenda shows that the department is working hard on how AI fits into its mission and the broader U.S. health care system. Panelists include leaders from the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Harvard Medical School teaching hospitals, and electronic health records giant Epic Systems.
STAT obtained the final agenda for the event, as well as the invitation, which was sent out at the end of August. The invitation touts “the transformative role of artificial intelligence in the fields of healthcare, human services, and public health” and “engaging discussions on how AI is changing how we approach health and wellness.” The invitation promises attendees “cutting-edge AI applications” as well as the opportunity to explore “ethical and practical considerations of AI in healthcare” and “future trends and opportunities for AI-driven advancements.”
