Some of Canva’s subscriptions are set to skyrocket next year as the company aggressively rolls out its generative AI features. Global customers of Canva Teams, a business subscription that supports adding multiple users, can expect prices to increase by more than 300% in some cases. Canva says the price increases are justified by the “enhanced product experience” and value that its generative AI tools bring to the platform.
In the US, Canva Teams users are reporting that their annual subscription fee of $120 for up to five users will increase to a whopping $500 per year, with a 40 percent discount for the first 12 months, bringing it down to $300. In Australia, the flat monthly rate of AUD$39.99 (about USD$26) for up to five users will change to AUD$13.50 (about USD$9) per user, meaning that teams of five will pay at least 68 percent more, even before other discounts are taken into account.
Some of those accounts were locked in at a lower price that Canva no longer offers. In April, the company quietly changed plans for new Teams subscribers to $10 per user, per month, with a three-user minimum requirement. Now, Canva communications lead Louisa Green says existing users will also be moved to this structure in September, “to reflect the current pricing of our plans and the value of our expanded product experience.”
“Our product suite has grown significantly over the past few years with the launch of new products such as Visual Suite and Magic Studio,” Green said in a statement to The Verge.
Canva has announced similar pricing changes in the past, but this latest increase appears to have been communicated in an email to customers only, and other subscription tiers for Pro and Enterprise users do not appear to be affected.
The premium pricing marks a major shift for Canva, which was once seen as a simple, affordable alternative to Adobe’s more expensive graphic design software. Canva users online have denounced the price hikes, with some announcing they would cancel their subscriptions and move to Adobe applications. These significant price increases come on the heels of Canva’s acquisition of the company behind the Affinity creative software suite for “hundreds of millions (UK) pounds,” and a possible US listing in 2026.
