Amazon hires staff and licenses technology from AI robotics startup Covariant

To accelerate this innovation and the benefits it brings to Amazon customers and beyond, we signed a new commercial agreement with Covariant, a Bay Area-based company that builds advanced AI models that enable robots to see, reason, and act on the world around them to support a variety of warehouse automation tasks. We value the Covariant team for its iterative, customer-centric approach to developing technology that solves the toughest challenges in warehouse automation and its deep understanding of end-to-end processes. Through this agreement, Amazon has acquired a non-exclusive license to Covariant’s robotics foundational models.Covariant’s model drives new ways to democratize how robotic systems learn, providing dynamic opportunities to leverage automation to make operations safer and better serve customers. As part of this effort, Amazon will expand its AI and robotics teams in the Bay Area, leveraging world-class talent to drive modern automation.
