CachyOS, powered by Arch Linux, known for its performance optimizations and other enhancements, has been released in an “August 2024” rolling release update.
Today’s August 2024 release of CachyOS now uses the open-source NVIDIA kernel module with a supported NVIDIA driver stack, NVIDIA R560 beta drivers are available, and the COSMIC desktop environment is now an available option in CachyOS. For those who want to try out the desktop written in Rust developed by System76, there is a COSMIC alpha desktop package available via “sudo pacman -S cosmic-session”.
CachyOS also brings improvements to the kernel manager, scripts to easily handle secure boot, improvements to CachyOS hardware detection, support for ASUS ROG Ally X with CachyOS Handheld Edition, and various other changes.
