Durham, North Carolina, has about 30 AI-related jobs for every 1,000 healthcare jobs, more than any other city in the country.
Researchers at the University of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota, made the discovery by searching LinkedIn for healthcare job postings that mentioned AI.
They cited medical data scientist, healthcare AI project manager, and health data analyst as examples of job titles that combine healthcare experience and interest with AI expertise and knowledge.
The authors of the study’s webpage state that the list represents “the top cities where AI will have the greatest impact on healthcare.”

The St. Kate researchers also identified the 10 cities with the most healthcare AI job openings, noting that this provides a “broader picture that highlights the density of AI roles in healthcare and the sheer volume of opportunities available.”
Also on the list are Boston, Massachusetts and San Jose, California (tied with 99 AI-related healthcare jobs each), Miami, Florida (97), New York City (90), Riverside, California (84), Houston (83), Chicago, Dallas and Tampa (80 each), and Philadelphia (79).
