The main tasks and functions of the Steering Committee include assisting the Prime Minister and the Government in researching, guiding and coordinating on resolving key and cross-sectoral issues related to promoting the development of Vietnam’s semiconductor industry; researching, consulting and advising on directions and solutions to promote the growth of the industry; and guiding coordination among various departments, government agencies, relevant organizations and entities to actively promote the development of Vietnam’s semiconductor industry.
The semiconductor industry is one of the most strategically important industries in the world and undoubtedly represents a great development opportunity for Vietnam.
Semiconductors, one of Vietnam’s nine national-level products, are reportedly among the country’s key development priorities for the next 30 to 50 years.
According to the national semiconductor industry strategy, Vietnam aims to become a global hub for semiconductor chip design, packaging and testing by 2030.
To achieve this goal, the Vietnamese government has introduced a series of preferential policies and incentives to encourage foreign companies to invest in the country.
Additionally, the government has established the National Innovation Centre (NIC) to build a high-tech ecosystem and enhance training of experts to meet the needs of the evolving semiconductor industry.
Currently, Vietnam has attracted investment from foreign companies such as Intel, ASE Group, Samsung Electronics, Amcor, Qualcomm, ONSemi, Renesas, Texas Instruments, NXP, Marvell, Synopsys, Hana, Ampay, etc. In fact, with global capital investment, Vietnam’s semiconductor industry ecosystem has gradually taken shape in recent years.
Vietnam’s Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said that Vietnam boasts several conditions and factors conducive to the development of the semiconductor industry, including a stable political system, favourable geographical conditions and attractive investment preferential policies.
The Vietnamese government is committed to developing the semiconductor industry and hopes to attract more large companies to invest in Vietnam.
