Google Gemini, an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, has refused to answer questions about the assassination attempt on former President Trump, in line with the company’s policy on election-related issues.
“Currently, I can’t help you with answers regarding elections or politicians,” Gemini told Fox News Digital when asked about the recent assassination attempt. “While I would never knowingly share inaccurate information, I do make mistakes, so while I’m working on improving, try doing a Google search.”
Google Gemini is one of many multimodal large-scale language models (LLMs) currently publicly available. As with all LLMs, the human-like responses these AIs provide can vary from user to user based on a variety of factors, including contextual information, the language and tone of the prompt, and training data.

Google announced in December that it would be restricting the types of election-related searches around the world ahead of the 2024 US presidential election.
“Gemini is responding as intended,” a Google spokesperson told Fox News Digital on Tuesday. “As we announced last year, we are limiting responses to election-related queries in the Gemini app and web experience. Clicking on blue links in responses will show you accurate, up-to-date search results.”
The tech giant’s policy on elections and politics was initially announced for late 2023, but controversy over Google’s influence over the upcoming election has grown in the wake of the assassination attempt on President Trump.
Google users initially reported that the search engine had left out the assassination attempt on Trump from its autocomplete feature, leading social media users to accuse the tech giant of trying to influence the presidential election.
Google feature omits search results for Trump assassination attempt; Big tech companies accused of election manipulation
Instead, Google’s screenshot showed suggested search prompts such as the assassination attempt on Reagan, the shooting of Bob Marley and the assassination attempt on Ford.
Initially, the search “Trump assassination attempt” did not result in any additional keywords being suggested by Google, but as of Tuesday, searching “assassination attempt” resulted in the autocomplete option “Donald Trump assassination attempt.”
A Google spokesperson previously told FOX Business that “no manual actions were taken against these predictions.”
In an updated statement, a Google spokesperson said, “We’re improving our autocomplete system to show more up-to-date predictions. These updates will also resolve anomalies in some searches for the names of several past presidents and the current vice president. We’re beginning to resolve the issues and will continue to make improvements as needed. As always, predictions change over time and may have imperfections. Autocomplete helps save users time, but you can always search for whatever you want and we will continue to provide helpful information for you.”
