Meanwhile, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman joined San Francisco Mayor-elect Daniel Lurie’s transition team after the US election. According to Reuters, Altman joins a growing list of technology executives to serve in government positions and said he is excited to help cities where AI startups are starting out. Bilal Mahmoud, a member of the city’s Board of Supervisors, said the former corporate executives are experts in prioritization and metrics-based governance and will help the city get back to basics. He added that San Francisco’s problems stem from inefficient technology infrastructure, leading to delays in approving jobs and housing that tech executives are in a position to contribute.
