(Bloomberg) – Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who helped develop the technology at the center of the explosion in artificial intelligence computing, believes nuclear power is the renewable energy needed for a growing number of data centers. He said it was a good option.

“Nuclear power is great as an energy source, as a sustainable energy source,” Huang said in an interview on Bloomberg TV on Friday. “That’s not all. We need energy from all sources, and we need to balance energy availability, cost, and long-term sustainability.”
In some parts of the world, there is already insufficient electricity generation to support the construction of new data centers. The problem is becoming more acute as the world’s biggest companies pour hundreds of billions of dollars into new infrastructure that they believe is the future of computing.
This is a squeeze that will lead to trade-offs in the location of new “AI factories,” as Huang calls them. Some data centers cannot reach full capacity, and others are built far away from population centers.
Nvidia leaders say that while their products consume more power than previous generations (the latest generation of chips require more than 1 kilowatt), they can do the work of training and running AI software faster, and It was claimed to be more efficient as it can replace multiple obsolete components.
Separately, Huang said the company is doing its best to serve customers in China and stay within the requirements of the U.S. government’s restrictions on Nvidia’s exports to the country.
“The first thing we have to do is follow the policies and regulations that are imposed,” he said. “And at the same time, do our best to compete in the markets we serve. We have many customers who trust us, so we will do our best to support them. .”
