PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) – Millions of dollars in federal funding will be made available to Oregon’s Creating Beneficial Incentives for Semiconductor Manufacturing (CHIPS) industry.
On Tuesday, Governor Tina Kotek and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Director Laurie E. LoCascio announced up to $50 million to be awarded to Oregon company Hewlett-Packard (HP) under the CHIPS and SCIENCE Act.

“HP invented the inkjet printer right here in Corvallis, and the facility remains one of the company’s major research locations, contributing to our state’s innovation leadership,” said Governor Kotek. “Oregon is a leader in the semiconductor industry thanks to our world-class talent and strong partnerships with our institutions of higher education. We are uniquely positioned to strengthen our national security by helping to grow our nation’s semiconductor industry. I thank the Biden-Harris Administration for their leadership in making this important award possible.”
The funding will be used to support the expansion of HP’s CHIP manufacturing facility in Corvallis.
The funding will be used for projects that will create approximately 250 construction and manufacturing jobs in Corvallis.
The project is part of the CHIPS and SCIENCE Act, which will invest billions of dollars in semiconductor manufacturing in the United States.
The Oregon CHIPS Act, enacted in 2023, would provide $240 million to develop grant and loan programs to support semiconductor companies looking to expand in Oregon.
