Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Nvidia are partnering to simplify the adoption of generative AI. The offering integrates Nvidia AI computing with HPE storage, compute, and cloud services. This article is part of the “CXO AI Playbook,” a candid look at how business leaders are testing and using AI.
Companies recognize the potential of generative AI in streamlining tasks and increasing efficiency across their business, but don’t always have the knowledge or resources to get started with the technology.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Nvidia recently announced Nvidia AI Computing by HPE, a portfolio of AI solutions to make it easier for businesses of all sizes to adopt AI.
Fidelma Russo, HPE’s chief technology officer and executive vice president of its hybrid cloud business, said the solution came about after the company learned that most of its customers were interested in generative artificial intelligence and wanted to adopt it quickly. “But there are a lot of barriers to getting started right away,” she said.
The product integrates Nvidia’s AI compute, networking and software with HPE’s AI storage, compute and cloud products, and Russo said it uses templates and a drag-and-drop experience to make it easy for non-expert users to develop AI models.
The tool is currently in beta testing and will be available in the fall, she said. Business Insider spoke with Russo about how the HPE-Nvidia product can help businesses overcome AI challenges.
The following has been edited for length and clarity.
What are the challenges companies face when adopting AI?
To inform this new technology, generative AI, you need to collect a lot of data. That’s one barrier. The second is that you have to understand how to use the new technology. The third is that there’s a lot of infrastructure that you have to set up.
This product helps eliminate a lot of those pain points. It allows us to leverage the various technologies that we have to integrate data quickly. By integrating our software assets, you can be up and running in just a few clicks. It automates the whole thing, eliminating a lot of the human steps and a lot of the mistakes that can be made along the way.
How does the product work?
For example, if you want to deploy a gen-AI chatbot, you usually have to decide what model to use, get all the data and all the hardware and software, including storage and graphics processing units, from companies like HPE or Nvidia, set everything up, and maybe after 6-9 months you have a working trained model.
What we’ve done with Nvidia is to have these pre-prepared models, they’re potentially pre-trained, you bring in your own data to personalize it, and you can have your chatbot or other AI model up and running in just a fraction of the time.
It’s drag and drop and templates. It’s very easy to use. You don’t have to move your data, you can leave it where it is. The data fabric goes out and references the data.
We really focused on making sure this was easy for people to navigate, taking the mystery out of using these gen-AI models and enabling users to achieve what they’re trying to do.
How does this product benefit businesses?
This is an all-around productivity gain for businesses. The promise of Gen AI is to unlock the utility of all the data that everyone has across the business. Gen AI can leverage all the knowledge that businesses have accumulated over the years to make mundane tasks incredibly fast, like improving customer service or helping developers generate code faster.
Companies that take advantage of this technology will gain a significant competitive advantage within their industries, which is why they want to embrace Generation AI.
The data that companies have is very important. One of the hardest parts of implementing gen AI is getting the data, but we can help you get access to it. This is one of the problems we have solved to help you get started on this journey.
