Onondaga County has revealed the project plan for the semiconductor company to move to Dewitt’s former Nexgen Fabrication facility.
Onsemi Company will acquire the facility and invest nearly $120 million while creating 80 new semiconductor-related jobs, according to a release from the office of Onondaga County executive Ryan McMahon.
McMahon said the Onsemi project will have two phases. Research and development, and Onsemi manages the Dewitt facility and its equipment. A manufacturing industry where Onsemi renovates facilities for its own technology.
“The massive investment and work proposed by Onsemi serves as a further verification that Onondaga County and Central New York have become hubs for businesses looking to expand and grow in the semiconductor sector,” McMahon said in a statement.
McMahon said Onsemi will ask Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency to “approve benefits related to the project.”
