On March 17th, students from the Laura Area will have the opportunity to learn more about their careers in the semiconductor industry at a semi-professional development seminar hosted by the Semi-Mid West Chapter in collaboration with Missouri S&T.
Students from S&T, Missouri, other local universities and local high schools are interested in careers in the semiconductor industry. Lunch is served and students can travel as far as their schedule allows.
“The semiconductor industry will need tens of thousands of new employees to meet the demands of the workforce in the coming years,” said Dr. David Bollok, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering and Computing at Missouri S&T. “Microelectronic chips and semiconductor devices are essential to modern society. This information and networking event gives students valuable exposure to the industry and what it entails.”
Event check-in begins at 9am. At 2pm that day, the introduction of the semi-Midwest chapter, a brief history of industry and career pathways, discussions with industry leaders, guidance on personal branding and interviews, work and internship opportunities sessions, and networking opportunities.
Missouri S&T educational opportunities will also be covered. In the fall of 2025, the university will launch a new bachelor’s degree program in semiconductor engineering.
Borok says another aspect of the event that students appreciate is the “Ask Me Anything” style panel discussion entitled “The Day of the Life of Semiconductor Engineers.”
“This will be a great time for students to ask a variety of questions about the inside and outside of working in this field and learn why it’s so rewarding,” he says. “It will be a comfortable space for students to gain honest and instant insight.”
