Nvidia apps have been updated with new releases from version 10.0.x to 11.0.1. The key change here is to ensure that users do not experience the disappointing game performance degradation (up to 15%) experienced by users who installed previous releases. However, Nvidia seems to have swept this bug under the carpet rather than fixing the underlying bug. The only change flagged in 11.0.1 is that “game filters are now turned off by default.”
We wrote about this option-toggling fix (almost a workaround) shortly after complaints about performance-slowing Nvidia apps started pouring out on tech forums and social media. The app moved out of beta a few weeks ago and replaced the (also) unpopular GeForce Experience accessory app with the 566.14 driver release. The beta testing period was not long enough to understand the impact on the game’s performance. I wish the test team included an avid Assassin’s Creed Mirage player.
So if you already have previous versions of Nvidia apps (mainly previous 10.0.3 releases), it’s probably not worth getting this new version. If you have already implemented a switching workaround to maintain GeForce fps, you can skip the 11.0.1 update to save a few bytes of data transfer (147 MB) and reduce your carbon footprint. Why not try it?
If you missed our previous story on how to restore graphics card performance, go to Settings > Features > Overlays > Game Filters & Photo Mode in the Nvidia app and toggle (Off) ). In Nvidia app 11.0.1, this toggle is already set to the off position.
watch on
Previous releases of Nvidia apps were packed with more impactful optimizations, updates, and changes, but the only guaranteed version number increase was 0.0.1. Perhaps Nvidia updated something in 11.0.1 but didn’t tell us about it, or maybe the developers were already in the Christmas spirit and wanted to celebrate with a major version increase. No.
The latest Nvidia app version 11.0.1 is available directly from Nvidia here. Subsequent updates can also be found here.
