I spent the afternoon chatting with o1 of the fully released OpenAI. Right now, I’m not sure if it feels like the super-intelligent ChatGPT 5 we’re all fantasizing about, but it’s smart and sophisticated. The new model helped us come up with potential stories and discuss issues. And of course, he wrote me a poem and told me a few dad jokes.
The biggest improvements to the news model appear to be in math and coding, with OpenAI highlighting meaningful improvements to o1-preview.
It will take some time to understand the new version of the model and see what it says about the pace of AI progress.
Before the latest update, max child, james wilstermanand I stood behind the microphone to reflect on the Cerebral Valley AI Summit and share some takeaways.
(Max has already connected ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode to the iPhone’s action button. Goodbye Siri, hello ChatGPT.)
Please listen.
