NVIDIA’s “next-generation” Rubin architecture is rumored to be available “six months” earlier than planned, as Team Green also aims to capture the upcoming AI market.
NVIDIA looks set to be aggressive in AI market by accelerating roadmap, Rubin expected in second half of 2025
There’s no stopping NVIDIA, given that it’s more focused than ever on maintaining its dominance in the AI market. It’s only been a few weeks since the Blackwell architecture was officially announced, but the industry is already buzzing about the next-generation Rubin AI lineup, showing NVIDIA’s ever-more-determined commitment to impacting the industry. You can see that there are. According to a report in Taiwan Economic News, Team Green is said to be releasing the Rubin architecture ahead of schedule and accelerating the pace between the architectures.
Rubin’s lineup was originally scheduled for 2026, but has now been pushed back to mid-2025. This gives NVIDIA the opportunity to advance much faster than its competitors, ultimately allowing it to maintain its market advantage. For those who don’t know, NVIDIA currently plans on a “one year” pace. This means that NVIDIA releases a new generation every year. Therefore, Ampere, Hopper, and Blackwell are all separated by years. However, Rubin, this may change.
The report doesn’t mention any specific reasons why NVIDIA’s Rubin is being launched early, other than classifying it as a business move. However, looking at the supply chain, Rubin is expected to feature TSMC’s 3nm process along with cutting-edge HBM4 memory chips. Both of these components are in or about to enter mass production. Given all the “tools” available to NVIDIA for Rubin, the company may not think it’s appropriate to release Rubin in 2026.
We previously reported on the debut of NVIDIA’s ‘Blackwell Ultra’ lineup or ‘B300’ series, where it was claimed that Team Green was planning to release it by mid-2025. So, with this, we might expect Blackwell Ultra and Rubin to also be released on a similar schedule. However, for Rubin, the release strategy is not concrete for now as NVIDIA may be overshadowed by the B300 series. We expect further updates from the company, likely around CES 2025.
