US semiconductor giant Nvidia on Wednesday signed a partnership with Thai technology company SIAM.AI to build the country’s first “sovereign cloud”.
The deal was announced during a visit to Bangkok by Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, the founder of a leading semiconductor design business, during which he artificial intelligence in Thailand.
A “sovereign cloud” is the idea that countries, regions, and communities can control where their data is stored, how it is accessed, and who oversees it.
Huang said data stored on Thailand’s sovereign cloud servers could be used to power the local “AI ecosystem”, such as generative AI chatbots feeding Thailand’s data. .
This came after Mr Hwang announced on Tuesday that he would work with the Thai government to develop “world-class AI infrastructure” in the kingdom.
Huang added on Wednesday that Nvidia will partner with 40 Thai universities and more than 50 startups to ensure local schools and businesses “have access to Thai AI.”
