A new report says Nvidia could enter the consumer CPU market with an Arm-based chip, most likely to be announced in 2025 and could launch in 2026.
Intel and AMD currently dominate the PC processor market, as these two manufacturers provide the majority of consumer PC processors. But if this latest report is true, that duopoly could soon be challenged.
According to a new report from DigiTimes (reported by PCGamesN), Nvidia may be planning to enter the consumer processor market by developing new Arm-based CPUs. Currently, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips have exclusive rights to Windows on Arm. However, Arm CEO Rene Haas says that will change in 2024 with recent news that that deal will end. This could also be due to Arm’s threat to revoke Qualcomm’s Arm license, not to mention rumors that Qualcomm could acquire Intel.
There is no clear answer as to when this processor will be released, but if at all, Digitimes reports that the Nvidia chip announcement could happen in September 2025, with a release date in March 2026. It is said that there is a sex.
How far can Nvidia push it?
This seems like a smart move by Team Green. Because it could use its tremendous reputation in the PC industry to push further into the PC processor market and give Intel and AMD some much-needed competition.
However, the lack of an x86 license could be a problem for Nvidia. If rumors of a partnership between the two manufacturers and the latter acquiring Intel come true, it could be acquired through Qualcomm.
Additionally, Team Green could enter the gaming processor market that pairs well with the already dominant graphics cards. Of course, such an effort would require significant investment, as Nvidia would have to commit a lot of resources to porting the game to the Arm architecture.
Also, while performance is well-optimized and has proven itself to be impressive, Windows on Arm is still not natively supported by most PC software or games, and this is also true for Mac. These are the hurdles that are hindering the game. But if Valve can support Linux in many PC games through Steam Deck’s SteamOS, it’s definitely possible that Nvidia could push for the same with Arm.
