All NVIDIA GeForce GPUs are at high risk as we have discovered several vulnerabilities in the GPU drivers that could allow hackers to exploit your system.
NVIDIA recommends users update to the latest GeForce display and VGPU drivers to ensure their systems are free of vulnerabilities.
NVIDIA has discovered several vulnerabilities in its GPU drivers that could allow hackers to exploit systems that use GeForce GPUs. This includes gaming GPUs such as the GeForce series and RTX series, as well as professional and workstation GPUs. The severity of these vulnerabilities is high risk, which can exceed 7 to 8 on the severity scale, and NVIDIA wants users to fix them through driver updates.
Other products affected by these vulnerabilities are NVS and Tesla. These can be fixed via the latest drivers shared by NVIDIA. This flaw exists in previous drivers and affects both the NVIDIA GPU display driver and the NVIDIA VGPU software. According to information shared by the company, this could allow hackers to run malicious code on users’ systems and steal or alter personal data.
Regarding all vulnerabilities in GPU display drivers, NVIDIA says:
NVIDIA GPU display drivers for Windows and Linux contain a vulnerability that could allow a privileged attacker to escalate their privileges. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could result in code execution, denial of service, privilege escalation, information disclosure, or data modification.
The severity can be between 7.8 and 8.2, which is high enough to be ignored by users. For VGPU software, the risk is 7.1 or 7.8 based on the two vulnerabilities found. NVIDIA recommends that Windows OS users who currently own GeForce, RTX, Quadro, or NVS GPUs update to driver 566.03/553.24/538.95. For NVIDIA’s Tesla series products, we recommend updating to 553.24/538.95 drivers to ensure safe operation.
Linux users are also encouraged to update to the latest drivers. For GeForce GPUs, driver versions 565.57.01/550.127.05/535.216.01 are the latest updates. For RTX, Quadro, and NVS GPUs, users should update to 565.57.01/550.127.05/535.216.01. For Tesla GPUs, driver version 550.127.05/535.216.01 is fine.
To update to the latest driver, you can also manually search for the driver on the NVIDIA website by selecting your GPU from the options. In some cases, the computer vendor itself may provide updated GPU display drivers with the latest security updates.
