According to a report from Money DJ, sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment in Japan continue to surge, with August sales increasing 20%, marking the fifth consecutive month of double-digit growth and reaching the fifth-highest level on record. Sales from January to August reached a record high.
Money DJ reported on the 25th that, based on data released by the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan (SEAJ), Japan’s semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales in August 2024 (three-month moving average, including exports) reached 351.06 billion yen, up 22% from the same month last year. This marks the eighth consecutive month of increase and the fifth consecutive month of double-digit growth. This is the 10th consecutive month that monthly sales have exceeded 300 billion yen, and the fifth highest figure since statistics began being collected in 1986.
The top four months were May 2024 with 400.9 billion yen, April 2024 with 389.1 billion yen, September 2022 with 380.9 billion yen, and March 2024 with 365.6 billion yen.
Japan’s semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales for the January-August period of 2024 were 2.831 trillion yen, up 17.3% from the same period last year, surpassing the 2.482 trillion yen recorded in 2022 to set a new record.
Japan’s global share of semiconductor equipment sales is 30%, second only to the United States.
