NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4070 GDDR6 graphics card is selling at a higher price than the G6X variant at some retailers.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GDDR6 GPU is priced at up to €614 in Germany, with the cheapest model costing over €562.
NVIDIA’s newly launched RTX 4070 GPU with GDDR6 memory is already available in the market, but not as expected: the RTX 4070 GDDR6 offers almost the same performance as the GDDR6X variant at 1080p and 1440p (only slightly behind at 4K), but we expect it to be priced at least as well as the GDDR6X model.
Instead, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GDDR6 GPUs are selling at a higher price, at least in some European regions. As spotted by 3DCenter (via Videocardz), there are several RTX 4070 GDDR6 GPUs from various vendors currently for sale in Germany and Austria, but they’re more expensive than the GDDR6X versions. The 4070 GDDR6 comes in fewer models than the original, but even the simple dual-fan edition is selling for a significantly higher price.
At the time of writing, the cheapest is the Palit GeForce RTX 4070 White OC 12GB GDDR6, which is on sale at BA-Computer for €562.07. Gigabyte MSI and ASUS offer six more 4070 GDDR6 versions, all ranging from €569 to €614. The most expensive is the triple-fan Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Windforce OC V2 12G GDDR6 edition, which is on sale for €614.00.
Meanwhile, the RTX 4070 GDDR6X edition can be purchased for as low as 536.73 euros in the ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4070 EVO OC edition. The original GDDR6X edition has many editions available for under 560 euros, making it more attractive than the GDDR6 edition.
It’s possible that in the coming days the price of the RTX 4070 GDDR6 will drop to something closer to the price of the GDDR6X edition, but for now we wouldn’t recommend buying the new card at a higher price than the original. The RTX 4070 GDDR6 doesn’t show any noticeable difference in performance at 1080p and 1440p, but at 4K resolution it loses to the RTX 4070 GDDR6X by about 2%. This is mainly due to the 20 Gbps memory configuration instead of the original’s 21 Gbps.
The rest of the specifications of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU have been maintained, so the GDDR6 version is not too bad on paper, and at the same time, since the Super edition is already on sale at a slightly increased price, the RTX 4070 GDDR6 should be available at a price similar to or lower than the GDDR6X edition.
